The short version:
- Two ways to book packing. A Full Moving Service packs your boxes and moves your household goods; a Moving Labor Only crew provides packing and unpacking labor without a truck. A Truck + Labor Crew doesn’t pack.
- Never on the same day. On a Full Moving Service, the packing crew and the moving crew are booked separately and can’t be scheduled on the same day.
- Supplies cost extra. Packing supplies carry an additional fee; on a Full Moving Service, it’s added after the job if supplies are used.
- Our published rates: packing crews are booked from our Moving Labor Only crews at $115 to $195 an hour; the moving crew with our truck is $135 to $225 an hour; both by crew size, with a two-hour minimum. Additional fees may apply.
- Book ahead. We often need 7 to 10 days’ notice to schedule a move.
1. What our Charleston packing services include
Our moving and packing services come as three kinds of crews, and two of them pack. Here is what each service’s card on our homepage lists:
| What’s included | Full Moving Service | Moving Labor Only | Truck + Labor Crew |
|---|---|---|---|
| Packing and unpacking labor | Yes, as a separately booked crew | Available | Not included |
| Loading and unloading labor | Included | Included | Included |
| Our truck | Included | No: you rent one | Included |
| Crew size | 2 to 6 movers | 2 to 6 movers | 2 to 6 movers |
Full Moving Service: we pack, then move you
A Full Moving Service covers packing, the move and unpacking labor for your household goods. For the packing and the move, it books two crews: a packing crew that packs your boxes, and a moving crew that loads, moves and unloads them with our truck. The two crews are booked separately and can’t be scheduled on the same day. The moving crew’s rate covers the crew, our truck and the equipment: dollies, furniture pads and straps, provided for in-town services.
Moving Labor Only: packing labor on its own
A Moving Labor Only crew of two to six movers can pack, unpack, or load and unload a truck or portable container you rented; no truck comes with it. Our rates page lists this tier for packing, unpacking, loading and unloading, so it’s the way to book packing help without the move, or unpacking help after a move you made yourself.
A Truck + Labor Crew is the other way around: our truck and a crew to load and unload your home, with no packing or unpacking labor. It suits customers who pack their own boxes.
What costs extra
- Packing supplies. All three services list an additional fee for packing supplies. On a Full Moving Service, the supplies fee isn’t included when you book; if supplies are used, it’s added once the job is complete.
- Specialty items. Additional fees may apply to items such as pianos, gun safes, exercise equipment, motorized beds and oversized or overweight pieces.
- Where our responsibility ends. Our booking terms say liability ends once the movers leave the premises at the end of the move, and on a labor-only job our rates page says coverage applies only during the packing, unpacking, loading or unloading itself.
2. Crew sizes and our published rates
Every service books crews of two to six movers, and the crew size sets the hourly rate. On the Full Moving Service booking page, you choose the crew size and the hours for each service, packing and moving; Moving Labor Only crews come in the same five sizes. Not sure which crew size you need? Ask for a free, no-obligation estimate, in-home or virtual, and we’ll size the crew.
Packing labor, on its own or as the packing half of a Full Moving Service, is booked from our Moving Labor Only crews at the published labor-only rates, $115 to $195 an hour by crew size. The moving crew with our truck is $135 to $225 an hour.
| Crew | Packing crew (Moving Labor Only, no truck) | Moving crew with our truck (Full Moving Service) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers | $115/hr | $135/hr |
| 3 movers | $135/hr | $155/hr |
| 4 movers | $155/hr | $175/hr |
| 5 movers | $175/hr | $195/hr |
| 6 movers | $195/hr | $225/hr |
Every booking carries a two-hour minimum, billed even if the job finishes sooner. Additional fees may apply. On a Full Moving Service, the packing crew and the moving crew are separate bookings, each with its own crew size and hours.
Book a Full Moving Service to have us pack and move you, or a Moving Labor Only crew for packing or unpacking labor on its own. Our service rates page prints the current rates, and our guide to what a local move costs in Charleston covers what drives the hours on a move.
3. How booking packing works
Our homepage lays out the order of a move: book, pack, move, unpack. When we pack and move you, it runs like this:
- Pick the service. Book a Full Moving Service. For packing or unpacking labor on its own, book a Moving Labor Only crew instead; a Truck + Labor Crew includes no packing.
- Book early. We often need 7 to 10 days’ notice to schedule your move, and a Full Moving Service needs two dates: one for packing, one for moving.
- Choose two crews. Pick the crew size and the hours for the packing crew and for the moving crew; the two can’t share a day.
- Packing day. The packing crew packs your boxes. The packing supplies fee isn’t included up front; if supplies are used, it’s added once the job is complete.
- Moving day. The moving crew loads your household goods onto our truck, moves them and unloads them.
Unpacking labor is part of a Full Moving Service as well.
4. Who our packing services are for
- You want the whole job handled. A Full Moving Service covers the packing, the move and unpacking labor.
- You rented the truck or container. A Moving Labor Only crew can pack your home and load the truck or container you rented: we load your rental truck here, and you drive it. Our labor-only guide explains where a crew’s responsibility ends.
- You’d rather pack yourself. A Truck + Labor Crew brings our truck and a crew to load and unload, with no packing. Weighing professional packing against packing yourself in the Lowcountry? Our guide to professional packing vs. packing yourself covers what movers won’t put on the truck, how who packs a box affects a damage claim, and how to pack well on your own.
5. Licensed, local and rated by customers
Our South Carolina Public Service Commission Class E certificate covers moves between points in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties. We’re locally owned and based in Mount Pleasant; our crews are background-checked, trained, uniformed and non-smoking, and our estimates come in writing. Customers rate us 4.7 stars on more than 480 Google reviews.
