The short version:

  • Check the Town line first. The Town’s own plan says its irregular boundary leaves many people asking whether they actually live in Moncks Corner.
  • Loading time, not overnight parking. No vehicle may stay parked on a street longer than an hour between midnight and 7:00 a.m., and in the districts the zoning ordinance lists, residential districts among them, box trucks may park only during normal business hours to make deliveries or perform service.
  • Storage containers: up to 30 days under the zoning ordinance, which gives no permission to put one on the street.
  • Moving trash: call Town Hall at 843-719-7900 to arrange a pickup. Cardboard isn’t a bulk item; break it down into your green cart.
  • Our published rates: $115 to $225 an hour by service and crew size, two-hour minimum. Additional fees may apply.

1. Moving in Moncks Corner: what a move there involves

The county seat, and the Town line

According to the Town, Moncks Corner was chartered in 1885 and became the Berkeley County seat in 1895. Its 2024 comprehensive plan places it in the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester tri-county region, with dozens of County agencies and Santee Cooper’s headquarters in town, and the Pinopolis Dam, main outlet of Lake Moultrie, the state’s third-largest lake, directly to the north.

About 15,500 people live in town, in about 5,200 households; about 74% of occupied housing units are owner-occupied, and among renter households the median move-in year is 2020 (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 five-year estimates). ACS figures are estimates with margins of error (90% confidence); shares are rounded to whole percents, and smaller-town figures like these carry the widest margins.

Before move day, confirm you’re inside Town limits: the plan notes that the Town’s irregular boundary leaves many people asking, “Do I actually live in Moncks Corner?” The rules below are the Town’s.

Parking the moving truck

Town code gives a truck longer than 20 feet an exception to its one-hour street limit for the time needed to load or unload, but the separate midnight-to-7:00 a.m. one-hour limit on every parked vehicle carries no loading exception; the code also doesn’t make every curb a loading spot (a parked vehicle still has to leave ten feet of roadway free):

  • Loading time. A truck longer than 20 feet may not stop, stand or park on a street for more than an hour, except for as long as it takes to load, unload or deliver (Town Code Sec. 34-196).
  • Room to pass. A parked vehicle must leave at least ten feet of roadway free for traffic, and a loading stop in a marked loading zone can’t exceed 30 minutes (Secs. 34-198 and 34-199(b)).
  • Midnight to 7 a.m. No vehicle may be parked on a street for longer than one hour in those hours (Sec. 34-195).
  • Box trucks by zoning district. The Town’s zoning ordinance bars heavy-duty commercial trucks, box trucks included, from parking in the R-1, R-2, R-3, PD-R, TD, C-1 and Corner Renaissance Overlay districts, on-street or off-street, on private property, public property or the public right-of-way, except when they’re being used during normal business hours to make deliveries or perform service (Sec. 7-14).

The ordinance uses the phrase “normal business hours” without defining it, and it doesn’t say whether a household move counts as making deliveries or performing service, so confirm with the Town before move day. Renting a box truck yourself? Settle where it will spend the night before you pick it up.

Storage containers

Loading a portable storage container at home? The zoning ordinance permits temporary mobile storage containers for up to 30 days (Sec. 7-15). That’s a rule for the property the container sits on, not permission to put one on a street, and the section doesn’t address permits, so ask the Town about your address before delivery. A Moving Labor Only crew can load or unload it.

Moving trash, bulk items and boxes

Trash is a Town service; the Town took it over from a third-party contractor for properties within the Town. For move week:

  • Extra trash from moving in or out? The Town’s sanitation page says to call Town Hall at 843-719-7900 to arrange a pickup.
  • Cardboard isn’t a bulk item. Break it down into your green trash cart; bags and boxes left beside the cart aren’t picked up, except at Christmas, the same page says.
  • Bulk item pickup is every Wednesday, and the Town’s bulk pickup request page says requests must be in before 3 p.m. Tuesday to be picked up that week.
  • Keep the sidewalk clear. Town code bars leaving boxes, crates, packages or other obstructions on streets or sidewalks at night, and leaving trash or other articles there for more than six hours (Sec. 32-4).
  • New to Town trash service? The sanitation page lists a one-time, non-refundable $80 fee for a green trash cart and a brown yard-debris cart, which arrive within 10 business days, so request them early.

Water and sewer

Water depends on the address. The Town’s plan says most of incorporated Moncks Corner gets water through the Moncks Corner Public Works Commission, also known as Moncks Corner Water Works, while other areas, including the major subdivisions along US 52, are served by Berkeley County Water and Sanitation; both utilities provide sewer. To start service with Moncks Corner Water Works (118 Carolina Avenue), call 843-719-7965, option 3, weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or print its Service Application and Agreement and bring it in or email it.

The roads between Moncks Corner and Mount Pleasant

We’re based in Mount Pleasant. The Town’s plan names US-52 and US-17A as Moncks Corner’s two principal arterials. US-52, four lanes divided, is the main corridor to the urban region, with connection points to I-26 and US-78, and US-52 East connects the town with Goose Creek and North Charleston. I-26 meets I-526 at the I-26/I-526 interchange in North Charleston, and SCDOT describes the I-526 corridor as running from Virginia Avenue in North Charleston to about US 17 in Mount Pleasant.

2. Our moving services in Moncks Corner

Comparing moving companies in Moncks Corner? We book three kinds of crews for household moves, each with two to six movers.

Full Moving Service

Full Moving Service pairs a packing crew with a moving crew that loads your household goods into our truck, moves them and unloads; you choose each crew and its hours separately, and the moving crew’s rate covers the crew, our truck and the equipment (dollies, furniture pads and straps), with basic furniture disassembly included. Packing and the move book as separate services; our booking page notes that “the packaging and the moving service can’t be scheduled on the same day,” so plan two dates.

Truck + Labor Crew

Rather pack yourself? A Truck + Labor Crew brings our truck and a crew to load, move and unload your household goods, without packing or unpacking, at the same hourly rates as Full Moving Service.

Moving Labor Only

Rented your own truck or a portable container? A Moving Labor Only crew loads or unloads it (we load your rental truck here; you drive it) or handles inside labor, such as a move inside one building. Our published labor-only terms say liability ends once the movers leave the premises, as our guide to labor-only moving explains.

Packing and unpacking

Full Moving Service books packing on its own day, apart from the move; Moving Labor Only crews also do packing and unpacking labor, and a Truck + Labor Crew doesn’t pack. Packing supplies and specialty items such as pianos and gun safes carry an additional charge, and we quote upright pianos by phone.

Moving an office? Office moves are scoped at a free, no-obligation walkthrough, not priced from our hourly rates; our office move guide explains the process.

3. Our published rates

Our hourly rates cover household moves and labor-only work. Crew size sets the hourly rate; the size of your home and its access (stairs, elevators, walk distance, parking) set how many hours the job takes.

Crew Full Moving Service or Truck + Labor Crew Moving Labor Only
2 movers $135/hr $115/hr
3 movers $155/hr $135/hr
4 movers $175/hr $155/hr
5 movers $195/hr $175/hr
6 movers $225/hr $195/hr

Every crew has a two-hour minimum, billed even if the job finishes sooner. Additional fees may apply. Packing supplies are an additional fee; on Full Moving Service it is added after the job. A larger crew costs more per hour but often costs less overall, because it finishes faster. Our guide to what a local move actually costs covers what drives the hours; current Full Moving Service and Labor Only rates are printed on our service rates page.

We’re locally owned and operating in the Charleston tri-county area, our crews are background-checked and trained, and our estimates come in writing. Customers rate us 4.7 stars on more than 480 Google reviews.
