The short version:
- One hour on the street, except while loading or unloading. That’s the City’s limit for a truck longer than 20 feet; a marked loading zone has its own 30-minute limit.
- Keep driveways and mailboxes clear. City code bars parking that blocks any part of a driveway without the owner’s or tenant’s permission, or access to mailboxes or trash containers.
- The green cart stays with the house. It’s City property; new residents call Public Works at 843-824-2200 to start trash service.
- Boxes go flat, beside the cart. Bulky items go out on trash day if the pickup is booked before 7 a.m. that day.
- Water depends on the address. The City’s plan names three water suppliers; most residents are on the City’s own Water Division.
- Our published rates: $135 to $225 an hour with our truck, $115 to $195 for labor only, by crew size, two-hour minimum; additional fees may apply.
1. Moving in Goose Creek: what a move there involves
A Berkeley County city
The City’s comprehensive plan dates Goose Creek’s first incorporated section to March 1961, with Crowfield, Carnes Crossroads and other smaller parcels annexed in the 1980s through the 2000s. About 48,000 people live in the city, and 32 percent of its occupied housing units are renter-occupied (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates, 2020–2024; estimates, with margins of error at 90% confidence).
The Carnes Crossroads design guidelines, posted on the City’s site, place the community’s residential covenants in the City of Goose Creek, Berkeley County, and the City’s collection schedule lists Carnes Crossroads for Thursday trash pickup. In any HOA community, ask the association about move-day rules before you book the truck.
Parking the moving truck: the City’s street rules
Goose Creek’s Code of Ordinances sets the curb rules:
- One hour, except while loading. A truck or other vehicle longer than 20 feet may not stand or park on a street for more than one hour, but it may stay for “the length of time as may be necessary” to load, unload or deliver (§ 71.04). In a marked loading zone, a stop to load or unload may not run longer than 30 minutes (§ 71.07(B)).
- Parallel and facing traffic. Unless angle parking is marked, a vehicle parked in the roadway must be parallel with its edge, headed in the direction of traffic, curbside wheels within 12 inches of the edge (§ 71.18).
- Room for traffic. A vehicle can’t be parked in a way that leaves less than ten feet of the roadway’s width free for traffic (§ 71.06).
- Driveways, mailboxes and trash containers. No vehicle may park, stop or stand on a public street or right-of-way blocking any part of someone’s driveway, except with permission of the owner or the tenant who rents it, or blocking access to mailboxes or trash containers (§ 71.16).
- Nothing left in the street. It’s unlawful to obstruct a street or public right-of-way (§ 92.02), or to place and leave any box, package, crate or other obstruction on the city’s streets or sidewalks (§ 92.03).
- Noise. The noise ordinance lists “a loud and excessive noise in connection with loading or unloading any vehicle or the opening and destruction of bales, boxes, crates and containers” among prohibited noises (§ 132.14(C)(12)).
The exception to the one-hour limit covers loading time, so a rental truck over 20 feet needs a plan for where it waits before and after.
Boxes, bulky items and the green cart
From the City’s Public Works sanitation pages:
- The green cart stays with the house. The City’s collection page says green roll carts remain City property and may not be taken with you when you move. New residents call Public Works at 843-824-2200 to start trash service and get a cart.
- Out by 7 a.m. The same page says trash must be curbside by 7 a.m. on collection day, and trucks won’t return for containers set out late.
- Boxes flat, beside the cart. The City’s sorting guide says cardboard boxes must be flattened and stacked beside your roll cart, and asks that boxes not be used as trash receptacles.
- Bulky items, booked before 7 a.m. Per the City’s sanitation page, bulky items are collected on your regular trash day if the pickup is scheduled before 7:00 a.m. that day, by phone at 843-824-2200 or online. Refrigerator and freezer doors have to come off.
- Electronics go to the County. Computers, monitors, TVs and printers aren’t picked up at the curb; the sorting guide sends them to the Berkeley County Convenience Center on Oakley Road in Moncks Corner.
Water, sewer and power
Water isn’t one utility for every Goose Creek address. The City’s comprehensive plan says Berkeley County Water and Sanitation (BCWS), Goose Creek Public Works and Charleston Water System all supply water in the city, with most residents on the City’s own Water Division; for sewer, it places Goose Creek within the BCWS Lower Berkeley Sewer District. Confirm your supplier before move day.
For City water, residential accounts open through the City’s online application; allow two business days, and customers outside city limits must sign an annexation covenant first. The City’s Master Fee Schedule, effective January 1, 2026, lists a $50.00 water origination fee inside city limits and a $25.00 transfer fee, applied to the next water bill.
For electricity, the plan says Goose Creek residents are served mainly by Berkeley Electric Cooperative and Dominion Energy.
The roads between Goose Creek and Mount Pleasant
We’re based in Mount Pleasant. The City’s plan says Goose Creek reaches I-26 at exits 199 (Summerville/US-17A), 203 (College Park Road) and 205 (US-78), and names US-176 (St. James Avenue) and US-52 (Goose Creek Boulevard) as principal arterials toward North Charleston and downtown Charleston. I-26 meets I-526 at the I-26/I-526 interchange in North Charleston, and SCDOT describes its I-526 Lowcountry Corridor EAST as running from Virginia Avenue in North Charleston to about US 17 in Mount Pleasant.
2. Our moving services in Goose Creek
Need Goose Creek movers for the whole job, or just a crew for a truck you rented? We book three kinds of crews for household moves, each with two to six movers.
Full Moving Service
Our Full Moving Service pairs a packing crew with a moving crew: the packing crew packs your boxes, and the moving crew loads, moves and unloads your household goods in our truck, with dollies, furniture pads and straps included. You choose each crew and its hours separately, and the packing and the move can’t be scheduled on the same day. Basic disassembly is part of the move.
Truck + Labor Crew
Packing yourself? A Truck + Labor Crew brings our truck and a crew to load, move and unload your household goods, with no packing or unpacking labor. It books at the same hourly rates as Full Moving Service.
Moving Labor Only
Renting your own truck? A Moving Labor Only crew loads or unloads it in Goose Creek, with no truck from us: we load your rental truck here, and you drive it. The same crews also book for packing and unpacking labor, or for inside labor. Our labor-only guide explains where a crew’s responsibility ends.
Packing and unpacking
Packing and unpacking labor is available with Full Moving Service (the packing goes on a different day from the move) or through a Moving Labor Only crew; a Truck + Labor Crew doesn’t pack. Packing supplies are an additional fee (on Full Moving Service, added after the job); specialty items such as pianos, gun safes, exercise equipment and motorized beds carry an additional charge, and we quote upright pianos by phone.
Moving an office? Office moves are scoped at a walkthrough, not priced from our hourly rates; see our office move guide.
