Relocating can be a stressful activity, whether it be local or long distance. Luckily, there are steps that can be taken to ease the stress of the entire process.

Most of the stress involved in a relocation involves the planning and the coordination in advance to the move itself. First and foremost, if applicable, it is important to schedule movers well in advance to the move date. Often, moving companies have limited availability during certain months of the year, and if your schedule is not very flexible, it is best to secure a time slot as early as possible. Furthermore, it is important to choose a reputable moving company for your move. Some companies will overbook and cancel at the last minute, leaving the customer stranded without help. Check their reviews!  Once highly rated and trustworthy movers have been scheduled, it is time to begin packing your belongings.

The packing process can be time consuming and require a lot of care to be done properly. When booking a moving crew, it is important to begin packing as early as possible to ensure that everything is ready to be moved when the time comes. Those relocating should begin packing things that are used less often and work their way toward to the things that are needed on a day-to-day basis. By getting an early start on the packing process, you ensure that even if there are more things than expected, they will all be ready to go when moving day comes. When packing, it is also advisable to label all boxes by what they contain and where they are supposed to be delivered. Doing this during the packing process ensures that upon arrival to your destination, no time is wasted figuring out where to put things or having to move things more than once.

Another way to increase the efficiency of the move is to always give explicit directions to the movers. When the move is large and there are more than 2 crew members, things can get out of control easily. For this reason, upon arrival at the loading site, the customer should have a walk through of the house with the entire crew and thoroughly give them any specific instructions relating to the move. What is going and what is staying, any specific directions for handling pieces and any concerns should be addressed immediately. This saves the headache of having the movers constantly asking questions about what is expected from the customer. Please keep in mind that the movers are there to help and if they ask questions it is just because they want to meet the customers expectations and assist them well. This also applies to the unload location.

In conclusion, moving is generally a stressful activity but it does not always need to be. By using the above stated tips, even the most complicated moves can be made stress free. It is our hope here at Lowcountry Moving Specialists that we can always assist our customers to the best of our ability and make every move as stress free as possible for the customer.
